Ryå is Vendsyssels largest and longest stream. It has its source in Jyske Ås , runs along the edge of Store Vildmose , which has its outlet in the stream. The stream is 10 – 15 meters wide from Vildmosen and further down to Aabybro and where it flows into the Limfjord the width is increased to 20 – 30 meters and the depth is more than 3 meters in several places. This makes the river suitable for canoeing and there is also canoe hire. There are also good fishing opportunities in the stream. Ryå drains an area of around 600 square kilometers.
