Endemic to Thessalian Pinios (including Karla Lake), Aliakmon, Axios, Gallikos and Loudias rivers and Vegoritis Lake basin. It is a gregarious pelagic species, living and foraging close to the water surface. It is widespread and commonly found in larger rivers, lakes and some reservoirs.
