Lake Castaic is a reservoir formed by the Castaic Dam on Castaic Creek, located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains in the northwestern part of Los Angeles County, California, United States, near the town of Castaic.
The lake has a capacity of 320,000 acre-feet (390,000,000 m³) of water, with an elevation of approximately 1,500 feet (460 m). It is a key component of the California Aqueduct\’s West Branch, although part of its water comes from the Castaic Creek watershed above the dam. Lake Castaic is divided by the Elderberry Forebay Dam, which creates the adjacent Elderberry Forebay.
Lake Castaic features a lower lagoon with a swimming beach that is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend each year. The lake also offers bass fishing in the upper and lower lake year-round, as well as float tube fishing in the lower lake.
