Trinity Lake, previously known as Clair Engle Lake, is a reservoir on the Trinity River, formed by the Trinity Dam and located in Trinity County, California, United States. With a capacity of 2,447,650 acre-feet (3,019.13 GL), it is one of the largest reservoirs in California.
The lake is popular for fishing and water sports. Anglers can fish for smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish, kokanee, rainbow trout, and brown trout. Despite the negative impact of dams on spawning grounds, fish populations remain abundant, thanks in part to the hatchery on the Trinity River, located just below Lewiston Dam.
Boating, jet skiing, and water skiing are also popular activities at the lake. Around the lake, visitors can enjoy hiking and camping in the pristine wilderness of the Trinity Alps and Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
