The Hortobágy River is the most important watercourse in Hortobágy, its total length is 167.3 km. At the border of Tiszavasvár, it originates from the Keleti main channel and finally flows into the Hármas-Körös river. The estuary is located 7 km south of Mezőtúr, if we count the distance from the town\’s only road bridge over the Hortobágy River. It is a rare formation, because, unlike most rivers, it does not have a specific source or mouth, and it can flow in both directions.
