The Shannon River originates from the southern outlet of Great Lake (Tasmania) and flows northward, eventually merging with the Derwent River. The mouth of the Shannon River is located near the town of New Norfolk, approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Hobart, Tasmanias capital.
